Power Animal Retrieval: Re-Discovering Your Inner Wisdom with Munishwarji Walking Tall Monday, April 16 from 7:30-9:30pm $40 ($35 early registration extended thru Fri., 4/13)
In the Shamanic Tradition, all of existence is animated by Life Force Energy and has innate Power and Wisdom. Power Animals (sometimes called Totem Animals) are Spirit Helpers that take animal form to assist us in experiencing our own True Nature. It is said that Power Animals reside with each individual to accompany them on their life's journey - just like a guardian angel. Power Animals are a foundational component of Metaphysical Shamanic Healing Practice. A Shaman's personal connection with her Power Animals add to the Shaman's experience of her own Inner Power and her ability to facilitate healing for herself and others. Each Power Animal that a Shaman has increases her own Inner Knowledge and Wisdom. Any living creature can serve as a Power Animal, and the gifts that any specific Power Animal offers an individual depend on the nature of the Power Animal and its specific attributes. As you establish a relationship with your own Power Animal, you may experience embodying many of those attributes yourself. Join us for this two-hour hands-on experiential workshop and become more empowered by connecting with your own Power Animal!

ABOUT MELISSA FORBES
For the last 23 years, Melissa Forbes has been a student and teacher of Hatha Yoga. Her interest in yoga became more singularly focused after finding inspiration in the tradition of scholar and yogi Shri T. Krishnamacharya (1888-1989). Beginning in 1990, she had the opportunity to study directly with both his student K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009) and his son T. K. V. Desikachar in Mysore and Madras, India, respectively. Both Desikachar and Jois are credited with fueling the resurgence of Hatha Yoga in the Western hemisphere in recent decades. Jois, in particular, was instrumental in popularizing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, from which the Power Yoga and Vinyasa Flow styles are derived.
As an instructor, Melissa Forbes began her career teaching Desikachar style yoga in 1997. She later became a co-founder and certified yoga instructor of the internationally renowned Heart of Yoga. She also has taught yoga in numerous schools throughout the United States, including the Omega Institute in upstate New York and the Olive Leaf Wholeness Center in New York City, where she worked closely with Dr. Rudolph Ballentine, a student of Swami Rama, founder of the Himalayan Institute. From 2002 to 2007, Melissa Forbes had the privilege to travel with the Indian sage UG Krishnamurti (1918-2007) throughout the last five years of his life. Melissa Forbes continues her development in the disciplines and practices of yoga and art, as an avid student, teacher, and painter. Yantra Painting: A Two-Day Meditative Sacred Art Retreat with Melissa Forbes SAT., APRIL 21 - SUN, APRIL 22 from 10am-4pm $299 SPECIAL EARLY REGISTRATION PRICE Extended thru 4/13 = $250 ENJOY THIS INTERVIEW WITH MELISSA ABOUT THE BEAUTY & MAJESTY OF YANTRAS & SACRED GEOMETRY
About the Retreat Yantras are sacred geometric symbols similar to mandalas. These mystical diagrams are used to bring the viewer into deep states of healing and meditation. In this instructional painting workshop, we will work with the vibrations of Lord Ganesha, Remover of Obstacles. Melissa will teach us the Ganesha Mantra (sacred chant), mudra (sacred hand position), and how to construct the Yantra of this powerful Being. In the Process, participants will remove obstacles in their lives and expand into a meditative flow of artistic expression through Sacred Art.
The Meditative Benefits of Yantra Painting Yantras are sacred geometric symbols that represent various aspects of the Universe and are used for meditation and healing. Yantras focus spiritual and mental energies to improve one’s quality of life or to invoke a particular Divine Vibration. Yantra means “an apparatus” in Sanskrit. A Yantra is a mystical diagram, or visual mantra, composed of geometric shapes that create, by sight, the vibrations and other mystical effects of a mantra. The act of wearing, drawing, or concentrating on a Yantra is said to have spiritual or magical benefits. A Yantra provides a focal point that is a window into the Absolute.
Mental activity stops when the mind is concentrated on a single simple object, and eventually the object is dropped when the mind can remain empty and silent without assistance. Yantras are very often symmetrical and usually designed so the eye is carried into the center. They can be drawn on paper, wood, metal, or earth; or they can be three-dimensional.
About the Artist Melissa Forbes studied Vedic Yantras in India with students of the renowned artist & teacher, Harish Johari. Her art has been exhibited in galleries in New York City, Philadelphia and the United Nations. She maintains a studio in New York while frequently traveling, teaching and painting in majestic locations around the world. Melissa makes her home in the Adirondack Mountains and is an adjunct professor of at the University of New Haven. More information about Melissa is available at her website: www.melissaforbes.net. Sixteen of Melissa’s vibrational Yantra art paintings were featured in the book, “Karttikeyan Yogic Method” by Samyama. Melissa is the author of the book "No Teaching Yoga" published by Gather Insight.
